Israeli analyst Dr. Ephraim Herrera compares the failed coup in Turkey to the terrorist attack in Nice, both happening within two days. While ISIS is clearly set on continuing their terrorist campaign to instill fear into Western societies, the Muslim Brotherhood prefers a more subtle approach. Their strategy has lately been to rely on demographic trends, i.e. the influx of more and more Muslim immigrants to Europe. Dr. Herrera points out, that the current government of Turkey is ideologically close to the Muslim Brotherhood, so that the failure of the coup might as well be good news for the Islamists. Democratic presidential nominee has recently announced that Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, will be her running mate in this year´s presidential elections. Kaine, a former Governor of Virginia, has a long history of embracing radical Islamists.
In 2007, Kaine chose Muslim American Society (MAS) President Esam Omeish to the state’s Immigration Commission. MAS is generally regarded as one of the most important front organizations of the Muslim Brotherhood in the US. Convicted terrorist Abdurrahman Alamoudi testified in 2012, “Everyone knows that MAS is the Muslim Brotherhood.” Facing extreme pressure, Omeish eventually had to resign from the post.
In September 2011, Kaine spoke at a “Candidates Night” dinner where a Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Jamal Barzinji, who the Global Muslim Brotherhood Watch describes as a “founding father of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.”
Barzinji had his home searched in 2003 and was vice president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought, which came under terrorism investigation also. Alas, a strange kind of “Lifetime Achievement”.
It remains the secret of Hillary Clinton why Tim Kaine should be regarded as a “strong on national security” running mate.

According to Capt. Joseph R. John, USN (Ret), the Chairman of Combat Veterans for Congress PAC, members of the Muslim Brotherhood and its various front groups have become “a very dangerous ‘Fifth Column’ in the United States, appointed by Obama to very high and sensitive positions in the US Government agencies.” In particular, he names the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR), and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) as hardly disguised front organisations of radical islamists, not supporting the goals and values of the US constitution. For the last eighty years, the Obama administration has funneled MB supporters into various government institutions like the DHS, the CIA, DOD, the National Security Council, the White House, the State Department, every US Intelligence Agency, and the US Armed Forces. In a recent turn of events, Turkey is mending fences with Egypt and cutting back its support for the Muslim Brotherhood. This about-turn might be a consequence of the recent terrorist attacks in Turkey, but might also be connected to the most recent rapprochement with Israel and Russia.
In recent years, Turkey had become an important hub for the Global Muslim Brotherhood, particularly after the ousting of President Mohammed Morsi in Egypt in 2013. At the same time, Muslim Brotherhood figures expanded their influence on Islamic organisations in the US, such as the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), Council on American Muslim Relations (CAIR), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), and Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).
Any change in Turkey’s policy to roll back support for the Muslim Brotherhood in the Middle East might therefore signal an about-turn for the Islamist movement’s front groups in the US. However, given Erdogan’s growing authoritarianism and his desire to play a leading role in the Middle East, Turkish foreign policy is likely to remain volatile. Rather than taking on the Muslim Brotherhood in general, Erdogan might try to put more pressure on the MB in Arab countries in order to reinforce Turkey´s leading role in the Islamist business.
